White-tailed antelope squirrel
In the land of rainbow sediments, a white-tailed antelope squirrel (Ammospermophilus leucurus) has left the passing of her leaving for us to find. Look closely; do you see her tail drag, the textured details of her fur?
Coyote (Canis latrans)
Coyote (Canis latrans)
Merging into rain carved sandstone
Crumbling under wild wind song
Glistening billions
Mirroring moonlight.
Twinkling silica
On the pads of coyote, tortoise, gray fox, kangaroo rat.
I am a land that follows you
And waits for your return.
I am raw earth exposed, a heart whose thrum
Echoes in chasms of pagan hoof beats
Whose voice serenades the stone to dance
Tumbling to become
Part of me, part of you,
This shared stretch of vacancy
An Eternity
Of echoing paths
Northern Pacific Rattlesnake
Barn Owl
The moonlit blades of Tyto alba.
Woodhouse's Toad
The mulit-colored mudstones, shales, and siltstones of the Painted Desert are a photographer's dream pallete. These desert badlands may be pink, lavender, red, orange, white or grey.
Kneeling in mauve silt, mud squishing between my toes, I treasured the slow wandering of a Woodhouse's toad. In the surrounding mountains, curtains of virga fell. Amphibians in the desert are as much a part of the monsoon as the rain itself.
